China Open 2009 HighlightsThe China Open 2009 is a combined ATP/WTA event scheduled between 3rd and 11th October. The tournament has a total prize pool of 6.6 million dollars.

After just two rounds of the tournament, Serena Williams regained world number-one position. The victory against Ekaterina Makarova, in the second round of the China Open, helped Serena Williams to regain the top position in world ranking. Serena won this year two grand slam tournaments: Australian Open and Wimbledon.

Serena Williams surpassed Dinara Safina, the fromer number-one because she progressed further in the China Open. Dinara Safina, lost to Zhang Shuai, a Chinese wildcard, in round two, while Serena advanced to the next round.

Rafael Nadal made a winning comeback after the injury that kept him away from court sice the US Open. Currently world number two, Nadal, defeated former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis in the first Round. Nadal is considered the favorite for winning the China Open tournament.

At all major online bookmaker’s websites you can find odds for all tennis matches, but just Ladbrokes and Paddy Power have odds for tournament winners. Ladbrokes quoted Nadal with 2.37 odds, while Djokovic has 4.33 and Cilic has just 1 to 11 chances to win the tournament. Paddy Power also sees Nadal as favorite with 2.37 odds, Djokovic is the second with 4.00 odds and Cilic has 10.00 odds, like Davydenko and Verdasco.
