Americas Cup of Poker

The Americas Cup of Poker is a team event managed by Poker Stars gathering online poker players and Team Poker Stars Pro members.  Players from 16 countries on the American Continent competed in qualifiers for the chance to represent their country in the final. The top five point scorers of each country will make up the team that represents it in the final.

Three countries received a Wildcard for the event: Guatemala, Panama and Honduras. The top four point scorers from these countries will get a place on the team if their nation will get into the final joining the player wining the freeroll that gave their country the entry into group stages.

The 16 countries where distributed in 4 groups as follows: Group A – Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico and USA, Group B - Canada, Columbia, Panama and Uruguay, Group C - Chile, Costa Rica, Peru and Venezuela, Group D - Argentina, Brazil, Honduras and Paraguay.

Countries in every group played against each other starting from July 27 to August 16. Top two countries in every group advanced to the live tournament. The eight finalists are: USA, Canada, Brazil Argentina, Costa Rica Mexico, Colombia, and Chile.

he live tournament will take place in Argentina, in the Patagonia region at a ski resort in Bariloche starting September 4. The final event will last three days and will be filmed for TV.

The prize pool for the final is $250,000 with the following structure: first place - $100,000 second place - $60,000 third place - $30,000 forth place - $20,000 and five to eight place will receive $10,000 for the team.

At the live tournament a Team Poker Stars Pro member will join the teams of every country giving all teams the chance to win the big prize.

The players from countries that did not managed to get into the live final still have a chance to win money. The third placed country in every group will send a team with the top five point scorers to a $10,000 online playoff. If the country qualified through the preliminary round the team will consist in top four point scorers plus the player who won the preliminary freeroll.

The online final will consist in five single table tournaments with one player from each team. The members of the team with the lowest average finishing position will win $10,000 to share equally. In case of a tie the tied teams will share the prize equally.
