On November 19th, 1892 a Parisian daily newspaper called “Le Siècle”, published the first number puzzle, a partially completed 9×9 magic square with 3×3 sub-squares. It wasn’t exactly Sudoku, because was based on arithmetic rather than logic and contained two digit numbers. The puzzle was named “carre magique diabolique”. Three years later another French newspaper, “La France” modified the game, making it more similar to the modern Sudoku. The only feature missing were the sub-grids, which were unmarked. Around the First World War, the game disappeared. In 1980 the game reappears in United States in Dell Magazines as “Number Place”, in the modern version, created by Howard Garns, a 74-year-old retired architect. In 1989, the game is introduced in Japan by Nikoli, in the paper “Monthly Nikolist” with the name “Suuji wa dokushin ni kagiru”. Later the name was abbreviated to “Sudoku” by Maki Kaji. In 2005 Sudoku conquers the world and reaches an incredible popularity. Due to its fame, Sudoku was recently introduced among the online casino specialty games. One of the first online casinos that introduced Sudoku was This is Vegas, the casino where you can enjoy one of a kind Sudoku Box Game. |

Sudoku is a combinatorial number-placement puzzle that can be resolved using logic. The game goal is to fill the 9×9 grid with digits so that each row, each column, and each of the nine 3×3 sub-grids contain all of the digits from 1 to 9 only once. The name Sudoku means “single number” in Japanese, but the game’s history starts in late 19th century in France.
